To The Earth is a collective of dancers and musicians in the Richmond area. Our performances blend styles to create a wholly unique experience.
We are also Richmond's only tribal style dance group.
We've been in existence since a fateful car
trip from one of Kawakib's performances in Fredericksburg in July 2005.
Our dance and music experience ranges in duration from months to years, and our influences are diverse.
Dancers are trained in American Tribal Style bellydance, with influences including American & Egyptian
cabaret bellydance, Tahitian, Hula and other folkloric dance, yoga and
even experimental theatre. Our music is fusion of Middle Eastern and African percussion layered
with Turkish influenced melodies.
As with all art, a little of everything we experience comes through
in our performance style.
We're a pretty diverse group of people, and we're proud of that. We
intentionally and happily include performers of all ages, sizes, races,
sexual preferences, religions, abilities, and genders. We believe that
part of our art is the power of seeing so many differences come
together beautifully on stage.

joining us
We will always consider inviting new dancers with American Tribal Style experience and musicians - both of Middle Eastern and other folk traditions - to join the
troupe. Because we are a mixed-level tribe, we often accept artists
who show great dedication even when they are not yet experienced.
If you'd like to learn more, we encourage you to come to one of our
performances or join one of our classes. Other performers are always
welcome to join us at Tribal Jam, or to hop on stage for the
free-for-all parts of our performances.
